Our Photography Tours are all about combining learning with some fantastic photo opportunities. On this World Photography Day, we compile a gallery of the best opportunities our Photography Tours have produced so far this year.
1. The Last Call
Bar-headed Goose, Kaziranga Photo Tour, January
Driving by a waterbody in the eastern zone of the Kaziranga National Park, Skipper Sachin Rai spotted this bar-headed goose displaying its wings and calling out. Stopping the vehicle at a vantage point for the right angle to photograph this avian beauty, Sachin was able to get the group to make some cool photos such as this one when the goose opened its wings and called out one last time.

2. Cat by a Snaking Path
Tigress, Corbett Photo Tour, February
From the dense green depths of Corbett National Park emerged this female feline form known by the name ‘Paarwali’. Awaiting her at one of the nearby trees was a male tiger, her mating partner, both of whom gave a surreal sighting for the Photo Tour group led by Skipper Sachin Rai. The tigers were seen strolling around for a while after the group made similar striking images of the female.

3. Bullish on the Browns
Grey-headed Bullfinch, Eaglenest Photo Tour, March
Without wasting time after being attentive to a stir somewhere in the thickets of the Eaglenest forest, Skipper Sachin Rai led the Photo Tour participants towards the source of the sound. After lingering near the spot for a while, a grey-headed bullfinch appeared and enthralled the group, allowing them to make such charming pictures of the finch once it perched delicately on a twig.
4. Handsomeness Head-on
Male Tiger, Ranthambhore Photo Tour, April
Watching tigers in the wild, especially when they are bold and willing to linger, is a heavenly experience that can’t be done justice to verbally. When one of T 19’s cubs was spotted sleeping by a riverbed in Ranthambhore, the Photo Tour group was ecstatic. Waiting at the place for sometime paid off, when the wild cat rose and started walking head-on, boldly. The evening was thus etched as a memory to stay, in the form of such breathtaking portraits, and the fact that only two safari vehicles of Toehold were there made the sighting all the more intimate.
5. Winging it to Glory
Hummingbird, Costa Rica Photo Tour, May
The popular multi-flash set up at Costa Rica for hummingbird photography is primarily done to capture the incredibly fast-fluttering wings of the little bird with utmost sharpness. Led by Toehold Skipper Jayanth Sharma, participants had a whale of a time making such sensational images of hummingbirds hovering in the air like magic.

6. Sitting Pretty
Tigress, Kabini Photo Tour, May
When Toehold’s Harsha Narasimhamurthy saw a blob of yellow moving at a distance, against the green backdrop of the Kabini forest, he made sure not to ignore it. On being confirmed that it was a tiger after looking through his binoculars and there being no other safari vehicle anywhere around, the safari vehicle was carefully driven closer to the cat, which, gallantly walked close to them and sat near the vehicle. She didn’t hesitate to even strike such fantastic poses and everyone made images of her majesty to their heart’s content.

7. Perched to Perfection
Leopard, Masai Mara Photo Tour, June
Have you ever imagined watching a spectacular leopard in the grasslands of Masai Mara for an hour and a half? We are not hallucinating. This spotted beauty called ‘Saba’ was revered on the Big Cat Week Photo Tour participants led by Toehold’s Sachin Rai, and some fabulous portraits were made when she was found relaxing on a mound at close quarters.

8. A Scenic Chatroom
Monks, Ladakh Photo Tour, July
Rarely does photo opportunity like this comes one’s way when landscape, culture and portraiture prospects culminate into one single frame. On the Ladakh Photo Tour, led by Toehold’s Rajiv Shyamsundar, the participants were sure to go high on the Himalayas. In the beautifully built Diskit Monastery that stands overlooking the stunning Nubra Valley, two monks on their tête-à-tête were photographed into such a magnificent frame.

9. Brilliance in Darkness
Bush frog, Coorg Photo Tour, July
Endemic to the Western Ghats, this gorgeous frog, Raorchestes akroparallagi, was found perched on a trembling leaf in Coorg. With leopard-like rosettes on its back and a vibrant shade of yellow standing out in stark contrast with the forest-green, brilliant images like this were shot by the Photo Tour participants with creative suggestions from Toehold’s Sachin Rai and Santosh Saligram.

10. Reflections of the Present
Polar Bear, Svalbard Photo Tour, August
In the icy-cold seclusion that the Arctic provides, where one can reflect upon one’s own being, our Svalbard Photo Tour participants, led by the Toehold Skipper Jayanth Sharma, were able to make some adorable images of polar bears after seven days of waiting. When this particular bear was found walking towards the edge of a sheet of ice, waiting for its reflection to quiver in the cold grey-blue waters paid off as gasp-worthy images.
