Masterpiece: Macaws in flight
In this ‘Story behind the Masterpiece’ post Jayanth Sharma discloses the technique he used to capture this dramatic photograph of the Red and Green Macaws in flight against a dark background. Listen to this podcast to learn more.
This extremely creative image of the macaws was photographed on our Pantanal Photography Tour in Brazil a few years ago.
The is a behind the scene image before the picture in question was shot. It helps to visualise the place better. This particular picture was shot when it was relatively cloudly, thus decreasing the dynamic range. However, on the picture in question, the sun was bright and the difference of shadows and highlight can be seen in the next picture on the right.
This is a behind the scene photograph that shows the greater difference in exposures of the rocks on the left and the shadows below in the sinkhole. Please observe the tree against the black background which has light hitting the surface while the background is completely dark, which was the genesis of the idea for making the shot in question.
