Toehold Develop – The Post-processing Weekly Contest: Dec 16-22, 2018
(If you haven’t noticed yet, you can mouse-over the image above and look at the ‘before’ and ‘after’ versions.)
Here’s a fun new contest!
The Toehold Post-processing Contest is here to test your processing skills. Every week, we present you with a raw image shot by one of our ace photographers so that you can show your processing skills by participating, sharing your views and learning from our Mentors at the end of it all.
In the twelfth week of the contest, we present an image of a field in Ladakh by Rajiv Shyamsundar.
“I shot this image somewhere near the gorgeous Taglang La (Taglang Pass). Even as the shadows of the clouds are falling on the mountains and grass, the whole scene is still evenly lit, without any areas of too dark a tone.” – Rajiv Shyamsundar
Our Moderators are looking to see how well you can normalize the image and maximize the dynamic range while keeping the colours vibrant yet natural.
Once you fill the form, you’ll get access to download a raw file very similar to the one shown here. For obvious reasons, it is not the exact same photo bearing Rajiv’s copyright watermark, but is from the same series of images. You have Rajiv’s permission to download and work on the .CR2 raw file to show your processing skills.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Download the raw file by filling the form below
- Refer to the featured image of this post
- Replicate the result or better it using Adobe Lightroom or any other equivalent post-processing software. You can make this image as optimized and enhanced as possible without letting it look garish.
- Post your processed picture on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtags #ToeholdDevelop and #Ladakh
- Please credit the photographer (this week, it’s Rajiv Shyamsundar)
- Please credit yourself for editing the picture
This week’s Contest is open until 17:00 hrs, 22 December 2018, Saturday.
The best-processed photograph will fetch the photographer a free Canvas Print of 24 X 36 inches width of any of their photographs they want to get printed with the world-class HP Z9 Large Format Printer.
The winner will be announced on or before Tuesday, 25 December 2018.
Participate now and earn yourself a world-class print of your favourite image! Please enter your details below, and we’ll email you the link at which you can download the raw file!
Update: 25 December 2018
The winner of last week’s Toehold Develop Post-Processing Contest is here! This subtle and tasteful rendition of Rajiv’s image is processed by Anjali Kamath! The Moderators appreciated how the exposure has been maintained well throughout the image, all the colours in the entire image look natural, how it is colour-corrected and the image is straightened.
Congratulations to Ms. Kamath! She wins a 36×24-inch print of any of his images, absolutely free!
