Toehold Develop – The Post-processing Weekly Contest: Nov 25 – Dec 1 , 2018
(If you haven’t noticed yet, you can mouse-over the image above and look at the ‘before’ and ‘after’ versions.)
Here’s a fun new contest!
The Toehold Post-processing Contest is here to test your processing skills. Every week, we present you with a raw image shot by one of our ace photographers so that you can show your processing skills by participating, sharing your views and learning from our Mentors at the end of it all.
In the ninth week of the contest, we present an image of a river tern by Jayanth Sharma.
“The rock on which this river tern was perched in Ranganathittu was brightly lit by the sun whereas the background was dark. The challenge in making this photograph was to maintain the right dynamic range to make the whole image look pleasing, and to attain the right exposure, without overexposing or underexposing any part of it.” – Jayanth Sharma
Once you fill the form, you’ll get access to download a raw file very similar to the one shown here. For obvious reasons, it is not the exact same photo bearing Jayanth’s copyright watermark, but is from the same series of images. You have Jayanth’s permission to download and work on the .CR2 raw file to show your processing skills.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Download the raw file by filling the form below
- Refer to the featured image of this post
- Replicate the result or better it using Adobe Lightroom or any other equivalent post-processing software. You can make this image as optimized and enhanced as possible without letting it look garish.
- Post your processed picture on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtags #ToeholdDevelop and #RiverTern
- Please credit the photographer (this week, it’s Jayanth Sharma)
- Please credit yourself for editing the picture
This week’s Contest is open until 17:00 hrs, 1 December 2018, Saturday.
The best-processed photograph will fetch the photographer a free Canvas Print of 24 X 36 inches width of any of their photographs they want to get printed with the world-class HP Z9 Large Format Printer.
The winner will be announced on or before Tuesday, 4 December 2018.
Participate now and earn yourself a world-class print of your favourite image! Please enter your details below, and we’ll email you the link at which you can download the raw file!
Update: 4 December 2018
The winner of last week’s Toehold Develop Post-Processing Contest is here! This subtle and tasteful rendition of Jayanth’s image is processed by Jp Nallamolu! The Moderators appreciated how the exposure has been maintained well throughout the image, the rock on which the river tern is perched is not overexposed, all the colours in the entire image are pleasant, and the catchlight in the bird’s eye has been retained.
Congratulations to Mr. Nallamolu! He wins a 36×24-inch print of any of his images, absolutely free!
