Tailor-made Vacations to Ethiopia

What you will see and experience:

From an archaeological dating reference of 3 million-year-old fossilised hominid remains in Addis Ababa to the astonishing rock-hewn churches, hidden crypts and grottoes in Lalibela, Ethiopia takes you deep into the pages of human history.

Then the 500-year-old monastery islands of Bahir Dar, the magnificent castles of Gondar, the giant obelisks that rise out of Axum, and even the rumored home of the Ark of the Covenant. In northern Ethiopia, you can take in unforgettable views of the Blue Nile and explore the Simien Mountains to meet the Ethiopian wolf, gelada baboons and other wildlife.

In Ethiopia, you can trek more than 3000m above sea level (the Simien and Bale mountains) or visit the lowest place on the African continent, the Danakil Depression.

It is the only African country to have escaped European colonialism. It has retained much of its cultural identity and its story is one of Africa’s most mesmerizing. And unlike many other places in Africa, the ancients here have left behind some astonishing monuments.

Ethiopia is home to about 31 endemic species of mammals and over 856 species of birds. The Ethiopian wolf, the gelada baboons and other primates like the walya ibex, and many endemic, exotic birds like the bearded vulture, the tawny eagle and the thick-billed raven will mesmerise you.

When it comes to human cultures, Ethiopia has an embarrassment of riches. There are the Surmi, Afar, Mursi, Karo, Hamer, Nuer and Anuak, whose ancient customs and traditions have remained almost entirely intact. Learning about these communities and staying among them is like receiving a privileged initiation into a forgotten world. A highlight of any trip here is witnessing one of the many traditional festivals, which will remain special in your memory for a long, long time.
