Using a tripod on a jeep safari might not be a practical option as even if you are the only one in the vehicle, it would be very difficult to make space for a large tripod to support your setup.However, you may carry it if you intend to make long-exposure images after dark (on the lodge premises). While on a safari, we would suggest using a Beanbag as they can be mounted either on the side of the vehicle or on its door, to give you a place to rest your shoulders. We do not book air transfers, however, we can suggest the best possible flights you can take to reach your destination. On a safari tour, the weather conditions can vary depending on the time of year. Early morning and late evening on safaris can be quite pleasant and cold, while afternoons can become a bit warm. Absolutely! This Tour is meant for fledgling as well as experienced photographers. Beginners get all the advantages of learning on and off the field from Toehold’s eminent Skippers. In fact if you are a newbie, you should jump on this terrific learning opportunity and sign up right away! However, in order to make the most of the Tour photographically, we recommend that you be familiar with photography fundamentals. If you’re not, we suggest you join an Art and Science of Photography Workshop before the Tour.

Kabini is open throughout the year, and we have had gorgeous sightings in every month of the year. Winters are extremely pleasant in Kabini, though there is a nip in the morning winds. During the harsh summers, a lot of wildlife can be seen cooling themselves along the banks of the Kabini. In Kabini, on a jeep safari, upto 8 people can be seated in the vehicle. However, on our photo tour we usually have 6 participants seated in one jeep along with a toehold skipper.

Absolutely! Monsoon is one of the best times to visit Kabini and observe the dry deciduous forest turn into a lush green forest. Along with the overcast skies, every animal seen is with a spledid forest backdrop. Since the forest rejuvinates in the monsoon, there is abundance of food for all animals including the big cats. The Kabini forest, which forms a sliver of the world-famous Nagarhole National Park, hosts one of the most diverse distributions of flora and fauna that can be seen in the country. Kabini is a heaven when it comes to sigthing the big cats as there are around 100 Leopards and Tigers in the forest. For one to maximise their opportunities at sighting a big cat we would recommend that they do a minimum of 4 safaris. Do remember that one cannot predict anything in a jungle, however, sighting a big cat is all about luck, patience, good tracking skills and a lot more.

In Kabini, we usually recommend staying at the Kabini River Lodge which has a colonial style architecture equipped to accommodate 75 people at a time. There are fourteen spacious, colonial style double rooms with modern amenities, six twin-bedded cottages in sylvan surroundings and five tented cottages with attached modern bath ensuring that your stay is in comfort. Apart from this, there are several other properties one may choose to stay at in Kabini.

In Kabini, there are three different safaris that are offered- boat, jeep & canter. On most of the photo tours we usually go on a jeep safari, however we can customise your tour based on the safari type that interests you.
